Not an easy swallow

A fresh S to SW wind. It managed to stay dry all day, then rained all evening.

Middleton Nature Reserve
A couple of nice shots from Janet.

This Swallow has caught a dragonfly or possibly a damselfly.
Either way, quite a mouthful

South shore (Malcolm)
I waited till this evening to check out the beach by the wooden jetty, after being dry all day, it rained all the while I was out!
Mediterranean gulls at least 23
Two adults came in with the Ben-my-Chree.
It was nice to see the Ben again, but unfortunately it was as a result of damage
to the Manxman while docking in the early hours this morning. No one injured.

One of the two Meds that followed the Ben in, then flew out again

16 adults, 1 x 2nd calendar year and 4 x 1st calendar year arrived to feed on the sandmason worms on the beach by the wooden jetty. Another 2 1st calendar year were feeding on the outflows.
There is a forest of sandmason worm tubes at the moment

Three of the adults had darvic rings but all previously seen this year. This clip gives a sense of the feeding activity here. It ends on a 1st calendar year Kittiwake.

The Kittiwake had no interest in the sandmason worms

This was the Kittiwake feeding a little earlier

First calendar year Eider in the harbour mouth
