Better seabird movement

An early light east breeze freshened and shifted to the west after lunch. Sunshine all day.

Middleton Nature Reserve
Report by Alan:

I only set two nets on the basis that there was no sign of overhead passerine movement with no cloud or any slight helpful breeze overnight.

Surprisingly I caught a few migrants including Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff and Blackcap.

The total catch was:

Willow Warbler  9

Chiffchaff           3

Blackcap           5

Robin                1 retrap

One of today's Willow Warblers

A stoat wandered along the central road towards me before darting into the bushes.

Pale-bellied Brent goose 9 - just 3 on Red Nab as I walked out, 6 as I returned, then 3 more arrived but they weren't welcomed!

Still there after the SeaTruck passed

Linnet 28 on Ocean Edge grass, plus 2 more above last year's nest site between the lighthouse and waterfall.

White Wagtail 5 minimum - 4 on Ocean Edge grass plus 2 along the sea wall, at least 1 of which was additional.

White Wagtail

Meadow Pipit 2 grounded on the foreshore

Meadow Pipit

Rock Pipit a bit complicated, but probably at least 7. One was displaying on Red Nab (when Janet checked later there were three arguing on Red Nab), one along the sea wall and at least three between the lighthouse and the waterfall.

This is the sea wall bird, it seems to have a problem with its right leg.

Three between lighthouse and the waterfall, the nearest bird returned
to its post above the lighthouse nest site (next shot)

This Roebuck was behind the gate to Middleton Nature Reserve,

280+ Turnstone arriving from the south. Additional to earlier birds,
so 330 for the morning

They settled on the lower tiers of the wooden jetty
