Red-Necked Grebes steal the show

Overcast to begin with then rain from mid morning till early afternoon, a dry and occasionally sunny afternoon and evening. A light east breeze moved to the SW by evening.

South shore (Malcolm) 09:45 - 11:00
Wheatear 1 on foreshore
Rock Pipit 3 - one on the sea wall and two between the lighthouse and the waterfall.
Rock Pipit on inner harbour wall. Pete has identified one boundary. 
The white mooring bollard on the south side of the building at gate 38 is the
territorial boundary of two male rock pipit.  Both were subsonging sat on the
bollard then chased off by the other! 

Linnet 6 - 2 on foreshore and 4 between lighthouse and waterfall
Whimbrel 4 - 2 grounded and 2 north

Red-Necked Grebe 2 on the sea - several birders happy with the identification, based on this back of a camera shot,

North wall (Malcolm) 17:00 - 18:30
No Arctic Terns seen 
Sandwich Terns at least 50 but most not likely to be additional to Nick's.


They were constantly moving through in low numbers, many having
a rest on the buoys before moving on

Guillemot 40-50 mainly summer plumage on the sea distantly

Eider 2 + 3 out
Curlew 46 to NW these would not have been seen from the jetty.

Common Whitethroat 1 singing
Osprey 1 flew south just as I was heading back

Juvenile shag fishing just north of Heysham Head

Pale-bellied Brent geese 2 this morning
