First, perhaps the only Cuckoo!

A dry but largely overcast day. A light SE breeze shifting to west in the afternoon.

Seawatch report - Pete

Heysham first hour 6.38-738 mostly from back of harbour: 

147 inbound sandwich tern and a handful out

28 inbound Arctic tern

52 inbound swallow and two house Martin

Nothing else! Several hirundine passing into and through harbour.  Last 15 mins saw an exodus of Sandwich Tern and complete dry up with swallows


Second 45 mins at Heysham Harbour a progressive paint dryer - lots of outbound Sandwich tern initially but just 14 inbound, two Whimbrel, two Guillemot on, 14 swallow, 2 house Martin.

The remaining waders were in stark contrast to the winter mix. No Knot, Curlew or Turnstone. Almost no Redshank, just a lone bird high up the shore.

Initially just 2 on the skear, this grew to 12 before they flew to the 
waterline out from Heysham Head.

The numbers continued to grow

Later two flocks of 54 and 12 flew high to the north

Dunlin, well on the way to full summer plumage

Gulls 350. Mainly Herring, but also Lesser and Great Black-Backed and Common. Many were shrimping in the rapidly draining channels. This clip includes Great and Lesser Black-Backed plus Herring gulls.
