I timed the walk to be the same stage of the tide as yesterday, to see if the Gannet had returned. It was clearly finding plenty to fish for yesterday. And sure enough......

It was resting on the sea between No.1 outfall and the wooden jetty

Presumably it had already eaten its fill as it just drifted out with the ebbing tide. Then it decided to have a fly around the area, clearly it was in good health.

It then flew back between the outfalls and had one unsuccessful dive before I left.

Same time tomorrow?

Mediterranean gull at least 12 resting on the mud between the outfalls, no gulls went to the beach next to the wooden jetty

Rock Pipit 4 at least. One on Red Nab. The behaviour of the lighthouse birds had changed. The male has returned to displaying and feeding himself. There were two other adults, one, presumably Mum wasn't happy about me being there, and gave me a good chirping at! Hopefully protecting at least one young somewhere close by.

Later I saw her fly over to the wooden jetty.

Clouded Yellow 1 female. It was along the edge of the track between Red Nab and Ocean Edge

Pete advises that sightings nationally are very low this year

Overnight showers eased by 09:30, then overcast with just the odd light shower. A SW wind.

South shore (Malcolm) 13:45 - 15:00

Kittiwake 2 on No.2 outfall, both adults today.

First seen drifting out of No.2 outfall 

It then flew over to No.1 outfall and began fishing

No luck on its first attempt, but this is a successful dive on only the third attempt. The gulls went crazy!

I've never seen a Gannet feeding here before

It continued fishing, in total I saw it dive 10 times and was still fishing as I left. Where it was fishing can't have been more than 2 metre deep, hence the short dive. It still went in like an arrow though.

It was swimming some distance underwater, I almost lost it in this clip.

Mediterranean gull this afternoon I could only find 2 adults and a 2nd calendar year. I returned this evening, there were none on the beach between No.1 outfall and the wooden jetty, possibly as there were three anglers at the seaward end of the outfall. At least 12 adults, 2 3rd calendar year and 1 2nd calendar year were resting in the lee of No.2 outfall

A red Darter was resting on the concrete track near the water pumping unit. Most probably a Red-Veined as no red male Common Darters seen so far this year. Unfortunately flushed by a motorcyclist before identification confirmed.

Just a quick passing check

Stonechat 1 seen flying across the marshy section. No black head, but too distant to tell if it was a female or juvenile

All the gulls were feeding on No.2 outfall again.

I checked again at low water this evening (Malcolm)

Mediterranean gulls 14 - 11 adults and 3 2nd calendar year. Feeding on the sandmason worms between No.1 outfall and the wooden jetty. There were lots of sandmason worm tubes showing.
